I’ve read the recent hullabaloo at Daily Kos over dehumanizing Republicans with increasing dismay, not on the subject or merits of the arguments but that the debate itself represents a serious Democratic Party messaging vacuum, so little of what we represent and our potential is horribly thwarted by a black void of nothing when it comes to getting the liberal message into American politics.
There were a lot of very wrong things with the recent decent ceiling fiasco, but one of the worst was the complete silence from the Administration and Party about defending liberal values, defending base government, defining what the Republicans had done, or even defending the Democratic Party, none of it made it into the news.
The President repeatedly demanded a clean spending bill. Then with no explanation oh well forget that idea and capitulate, be led around by quack Republicans and ultimately have crucial government functionality terribly degraded. All with complete silence on the extortion, defending nothing that was degraded and ultimately giving in.
Dehumanizing can arrive with a ripping sense of frustration, our people are desperate for Democratic Party messaging that works. Dehumanization is a bad sign of regression, just don’t do it, that path leads to citizens of the enlightenment like Timothy McVeigh.
Of course I read all the Dark Brandon pieces on how President Biden had handled it and staved off government chaos. It’s one way to look at it, assuming the Republicans held a viable policy position in good faith with a path in process. They did not, but President Biden chose the safe, easy way of saying he had preserved America by keeping the Republicans from wrecking it.
Some lines are never crossed, if the Republicans want bipartisanship with policy choice or horse trading with legislation go ahead and work with them, but if they choose extortion with debt ceiling–or denying a Supreme Court seat to President Obama–then completely forget it, bring out the mattresses and put on the fight until their stupid, regressive tactics are denied.
I have never once seen a Democratic President do this. There are a lot of absurd, ridiculous cultural definitions over masculinity, but no guy looks at a Party that never puts up a righteous fight over core values and decides that’s something to identify with. Has the Democratic Party or President ever seen the identification numbers with American men to the Democratic Party in this country? My god, maybe if we acted like men more would vote for us, it could really be good politics to get more support and votes. Right?
Am I so foolish as to demand perfection from President Biden? So beholden to my personal preferences it would thwart my liberal or Democratic Party loyalty? Of course not. But it isn’t a personal preference for the President or Party to seriously get out there in a hostile media environment and repeatedly shout the Republicans are in regression, they’ve got nothing but going backwards.
It’s seriously dangerous, the ridiculous filth the Republicans spewed at FBI Director Wray recently is straight out of radical Timothy McVeigh politics. Yeah the Republicans want to wreck the government so white men rule, yeah they’re liars and manipulators, but for god’s sake their rhetoric and politics are going to get a lot of people killed!
Bideneconomics is the response. Okay. Of course I can see the positivity of it, but this absurd and dangerous denial about defining what the Republicans have become and behave already has had disastrous consequences, the Republicans have wrecked the Supreme Court, the democracy I grew up with is plain gone.
I know I’m not the average American Joe voter, I know US history extremely well, have a SJSU political science degree and fanatically attune to the news. I also know this utter shit century for America started with that busted Supreme Court and Bush vs Gore, which until then gave us the worst war criminal President we had ever had. Republican regression has been worsening for 20 years and erupted with President Trump, but the Party and President will take a pass on trying to fix it with 2025 Supreme Court reform.
Very well, we will limp and blunder along while the Court rips our rights and democracy apart while we remember with longing what a real country was like, what a real summer was that didn’t fry us alive or drown us or choke us with smoke. We can vociferously define what the Republicans have become and what they will do with us with climate denial or watch the South become a baking hell in a broken country, that is the plain choice, acting like working with Republicans is good politics isn’t an option anymore.
